Splints and casts support and protect injured bones and soft tissue, reducing pain, swelling and muscle spasm.  Your doctor will decide which type of support will be best for you.

What is Casting & Bracing?

Serial casting and braces are two treatment options for reducing spasticity and stretching contracted muscles.

Casting and braces can be used alone as a treatment method or in conjucntion with other methods. For example, after children receive medication to reduce spasticity, they have less muscle tone and a cast may be necessary to stretch the affected muscle group(s).

Casts, braces or splints can be used to balance tight or spastic muscles. They hold the muscle in a slight stretch to help prevent contracture.
