About Dr. Mason

James Mason, DO, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He joined Orthopaedic Associates in 2005 and has treated patients in the Albany, Georgia, community since 1998.

A Pennsylvania native, Dr. Mason attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania,  graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1980. With a strong passion for medicine, he enrolled in the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Biddeford, Maine, where he received his doctorate in 1984.

A year later, Dr. Mason finished an internship at Grandview Hospital and Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. He completed his four-year residency at Doctors Hospitals in Columbus, Ohio, then finished a prestigious AO fellowship in sports medicine and trauma in Bern, Switzerland, in 1990.

Dr. Mason began practicing orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine in 1991, when he joined the U.S. Air Force, eventually rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. Before completing his service in 1997, Dr. Mason served as orthopaedic consultant to the command surgeon, chief of surgery, and chief of orthopaedics.

With a well-rounded knowledge of orthopaedics, Dr. Mason’s specialties include sports medicine, arthroscopy, and minimally invasive surgery.

Though he’s currently president of the American Osteopathic Academy of orthopaedics, Dr. Mason still finds time to pursue his passions outside of medicine, which include golf, basketball, and traveling.
